A beautiful and relaxed Lake District Wedding - Elizabeth & Kyle: Langdale Chase, Windermere
From when Kyle first enquired with me about photographing his and Elizabeth’s wedding, I was so excited because Windermere in the Lake District is one of my favourite places on Earth! Rob & I try and go a few times a year, even if it’s just for a day trip, so obviously the prospect of shooting a wedding there was amazing!
When I saw the venue – Langdale Chase - I was even more excited. Langdale Chase dates back to 1890 and is a grand hotel sitting right on Windermere, looking out over the lake. Perfect.
I arrived just before noon to document bridal prep and the lovely Rachel Kenyon joined me to assist. Elizabeth, her sister Catherine and her friend Florence were all getting their makeup and hair done whilst sipping on Champagne. Kyle had very sweetly bought Elizabeth a surprise gift - a jewellery box inscribed with roman numerals. It’s the little personal touches like that, that change with each wedding, that really add so much to each individual wedding day and are so fun to photograph.
One of my favourite moments of any day is when the parents of the bride get to see their daughter in her wedding dress for the first time – it’s SUCH a lovely moment and you could see the pride and emotion on Elizabeth’s dads face as soon as he walked in the room.
After the ceremony, everybody headed outside for canapes and drinks. The weather had threatened to rain all week but by a stroke of luck, it stayed dry and bright for the whole afternoon.
Earlier in the day, I had spotted a jetty on the lake in the hotel grounds so once I had the chance to whisk the happy couple off for some portraits, we headed straight there. They were such a photogenic pair and I’m sure you’ll agree, look like they’d just finished on some sort of magazine photoshoot!
I do have to give a special shout out to one particular friend of the bride, who had literally brought a megaphone to the wedding with her to help round people up and organise them for the few formal photos that Elizabeth and Kyle had decided to have. She was an absolute superstar and made sure that everybody was where they needed to be whilst we took the select few group shots.
My day ended after all of the speeches which were, of course, emotional and hilarious too! I love listening to the speeches and always end up either crying myself or in fits of laughter. I have no doubt that the evening do continued as wonderfully as the day time had and wish Kyle & Elizabeth a life time of happiness. Thank you both so much once again for booking me, your day was perfect!
